The global network Teach For All makes a key M&E hire

The international education non-profit Teach For All has appointed Alvin Vista as their global Student Outcomes Measurements Specialist.

Established in 2007 by the founding organisations Teach For America in the USA and Teach First in the UK, Teach For All is a global network of 49 independent, locally-led partner organisations, and a global organisation that works to accelerate the progress of the network. Partner organisations recruit and develop promising future leaders to teach in their nation’s under-resourced schools and communities, working with others, both inside and outside of the education sector, to ensure that all children are able to fulfil their potential.

The Student Outcomes Measurement Specialist is a senior and key global appointment that would work across the network and support partners to drive a broader set of academic and non-academic outcomes than are typically valued in education. Society conducted a global search for experts who were highly experienced in technical student assessment design, with exceptional people skills, an unbridled passion for addressing educational disadvantage, and a track record of working in cross-cultural or international contexts.

Dr Alvin Vista comes from a multicultural background, being an Australian national originally from the Philippines. Prior to this appointment, Alvin was a Fellow with the globally-renowned think tank, Brookings Institution, based in Washington D.C. Throughout his career, he has lead educational research on psychometrics, assessments, and capacity building and collaborated with major partners such as UNICEF, UNESCO, and governments internationally. He holds a PhD in Educational Measurement from the University of Melbourne, and a Master of Arts in Educational Psychology from the University of Georgia.

Alvin commented, “I am excited to join Teach For All and be part of the team that will support empirical research on student outcomes across the global network. This position is both professionally stimulating and personally engaging for me. I'm thankful to Conor at Society for introducing me to this position and for guiding through the interview process. The interview process was very smooth, which was quite a feat given that the panel members and myself were spread across the world during the entire process. Kudos to the organisation prowess of the Teach For All team. Finally, many thanks to Laura at Teach For All for giving me the opportunity to be part of the team!”
