The University of Westminster has a long and distinctive history. Founded as the UK’s first polytechnic in 1838, their mission was to educate the working people of London. They have created a learning environment and a culture that supports a hugely diverse and international community of students. They have a new strategy in place for the next five years called ‘Being Westminster’ that builds on their unique history and achievements. As part of this, the University sought to appoint their first Director of Business Engagement to lead and coordinate the University’s business, industry and employer engagement strategy.
Society undertook a thorough search which spanned the further and higher education sectors, wider corporate engagement within and without the private sector, and those involved in policy as relates to industry engagement. From this search a strong field was identified with Linsey Cole appointed to the position.
Linsey joined the University of Westminster from London South Bank University (LSBU) where she was Acting Director of Research, Enterprise and Innovation (REI) and had been Associate Director (Enterprise & Entrepreneurship) immediately prior. Through her career Linsey had also worked at the University of East London, the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), and Oxford University Students’ Union (OUSU).
Commenting on her appointment, Linsey said:
"I am delighted to be joining the University of Westminster to lead the transformation of the University's engagement with business, industry and employers, to enhance employability outcomes for students and knowledge exchange activities. Society were great to work with: their communication was timely and thorough. The team were incredibly supportive, especially with the added challenges of a virtual recruitment process."
We are delighted for Linsey and wish her every success in her new role.
