Primary Care International appoints Steve Murigi as new CEO

Primary Care International (PCI) approached Society in 2022 to support with the appoint of its new CEO.

PCI is a growing social enterprise (CIC) founded in 2014, which works towards a world where everyone has access to quality healthcare that enables them to grow and live fulfilling lives. As a globally recognised leader in strengthening the capacity for primary care healthcare delivery through partnerships with ministries of health, inter-governmental agencies, and non-governmental organisations, PCI identified the need for a new leader knowledgeable about global healthcare, with a track record of growing new collaborations.

Our search sought  out leaders well equipped to build partnerships for the wider transformation of primary healthcare systems, with a focus on quality, resilience and equity.

Steve is a public health leader and advocate of inclusive, adaptive, localised and people-centred development practice, with extensive experience in international development across Africa and Europe. Over the years, he has worked across senior communication, advocacy, partnerships, and programme disciplines to drive organisational growth.

Currently Head of Programmes and Strategic Partnerships at Amref Health Africa UK, he has a proven track record of mobilising resources and delivering high-worth, high-impact health programmes and partnerships, engaging civil society, private sector and government, to increase the breadth and depth of Amref Health Africa’s work.

Steve will be leading PCI to achieve its ambitions of reaching 25,000 healthworkers globally by 2025 – with a focus on developing a new generation of healthcare leaders who are passionate about the power of primary healthcare to improve health outcomes.

We wish him every success in this new role.
