UCL appoints next Head of Department of Mechanical Engineering and Kennedy Chair

Professor Richard Bucknall, has  been appointed as Head of Department of Mechanical Engineering and Kennedy Chair at University College London (UCL).

Consistently ranked among the world’s top universities, UCL is a modern, outward-looking HEI, with a global reputation for excellence across research and teaching. Founded in 1826 as a radically different institution that opened up higher education to people of all beliefs and social backgrounds, this pioneering ethos remains alive today. As London’s leading multidisciplinary university, UCL is a true academic powerhouse with genuinely international reach and vision.

An established academic with an international reputation in marine systems and power engineering, Richard joined UCL in 1995. Prior to becoming Head of the Department, he was Vice Dean (Research) for the Faculty of Engineering.

Of his recent experience working with Society, Richard said “I applied for a Head of Department position at one of the UK’s leading universities through Society not sure whether I was ready.  The professional support I received from Society’s team was fantastic.  Society really understood the sector and the needs of the employer, and worked with me to ensure that at each stage of the application process I could give my very best. I was delighted to be offered the position after interviews, for which I felt well prepared.”

We wish Richard every success in his new role.
