Trees for Cities appoints a new trustee

Trees for Cities has appointed Dr Sebastien Chapleau to its Board of Trustees.

Trees for Cities is the only UK charity working at a national and international scale to improve lives by planting trees in cities. The charity works in partnership with local communities to cultivate lasting neighbourhood change, whether that’s through revitalising forgotten spaces, creating healthier environments or inspiring people to grow, forage and eat healthy food.

Part of the Trees for Cities' strategy involves working with schools through its Edible Playgrounds programme. This multi-sensory scheme helps primary school children learn about growing and eating healthy food through the development of edible playgrounds across the UK.

In light of this rapidly developing area of work, Trees for Cities thus sought to bring someone with schools experience onto its trustee board. Leveraging its broad education network, Society was able to introduce Dr Sebastien Chapleau and to facilitate his appointment.

Sebastien is the Director of the Big Education Conversation. Prior to this, he was the Founding Headteacher of La Fontaine Academy, a state-funded primary school in south east London. Before setting up La Fontaine Academy, Sebastien held the post of Senior Community Organiser with Citizens UK, where he worked with Headteachers and community leaders across London, supporting them on issues of social justice.
