Development and Fundraising

The Development and Fundraising profession is pivotal to the future effectiveness of charities, to the competitiveness of education institutions, and to the vibrancy of our leading arts and cultural bodies.

Our work in this area includes Director-level appointments, but also the sort of mid-level roles that a lot of organisations find particularly challenging to recruit to. Although a substantial portion of our work at this level has been within the Major Gifts area, we have experience of posts focused on Corporates, Trusts and Foundations, Institutional Donors, Regular Giving, Direct Marketing, and Legacies.  We also appreciate that many forward-looking organisations are increasingly embracing the concept of ‘Advancement’ - seeking to integrate fundraising into their wider external relations strategy and the thinking of all their senior leaders - and we are very supportive of this agenda.

Society doesn't just specialise in Development and Fundraising, and we believe that this is a key source of strength for us in terms of making effective fundraising appointments. Many organisations experience something of a revolving door in their philanthropy departments, frequently recruiting from and losing staff to the same familiar locations. Since our networks are broader and global, we are able to move beyond simply ‘the usual suspects’. We also frequently understand our clients in much more depth, due to working with them previously on appointments in other functional areas.
