Rising Academy Network

Chief Operating Officer

Package: Salary will be competitive with market rate and negotiable depending upon experience
Location: Western Africa - West Africa (may be some flexibility to be based in other locations)
Deadline: 19 October 2018

The Rising Academy Network was founded in 2014. Its mission is to create schools that open doors and change lives in the places that need them most. For-purpose not just for-profit, Rising provided emergency education to children kept out of school by the Ebola epidemic before opening its first school in Sierra Leone in 2015. It now runs 29 government schools across seven counties in rural Liberia and 10 schools in Sierra Leone serving families looking for a high-quality education at an affordable cost. It expects to expand to other countries in the region in 2019.

As Rising moves from start-up to growth stage, it is looking to appoint a Chief Operating Officer. This newly created role will lead the building and roll-out of the systems and routines Rising needs to keep delivering great work at scale and to make well-informed decisions at every level of the organisation. Reporting to the CEO, the COO’s focus will be on the key functional areas of finance, people and operations.

The ideal candidate will be commercially savvy and highly financially literate, with a proven track record of success in a private sector company and a desire to apply those skills to a fast-growing social venture. They will be not just a great doer, but also a great engineer and system-builder. This will be a challenging, often unpredictable environment to work in, so a driven, adaptable attitude and a hands-on approach are needed.

The post will be based in West Africa. For the right candidate, there may be flexibility to be based in other locations, although the post-holder should be available for communications during office hours in GMT and willing to undertake significant travel to Rising’s countries of operation.

The deadline for receipt of applications is midday on Friday, 19 October 2018.
