Last Friday 12,000 people from more than 300 companies volunteered 96,064 hours of their time for community projects across the UK. This was all part of the annual ‘Give & Gain Day’, the country’s only national day of employee volunteering. This year's event was the largest ever, and it was sponsored by Society alongside Lloyds Banking Group, and in association with BT.

Organised by Business in the Community, Give & Gain Day mobilises employees to volunteer their expertise and time during work hours. The event connects skilled professionals with community organizations by matching them with a volunteering project. Business volunteers helped out in schools, day centres, and youth groups, doing everything from school sports days, to employability workshops and CV training for the long-term unemployed.

Society’s own colleagues were at The Children’s Trust in Tadworth, a charity for young people with profound and multiple learning difficulties.  We spent the day on-site completing a series of projects in their 23 acre garden.
