Hubbub appoints a new Chair of the Board and three new Trustees

We were delighted to partner with Hubbub, an award-winning environmental charity, in the search for a new Chair and several Trustees for their Board.
Hubbub is an award-winning creative charity that’s been inspiring positive environmental action since 2014. Every campaign is sparked by their passion to problem-solve and connect with people – like making leftovers tastier, reuse easier, second-hand the default and communities that are greener and more connected to the environment. Everyday solutions that do good, feel good and show how much change is possible when people come together. They engaged us to find a new Chair of their Board as their longstanding Chair had reached the end of her term, and two additional Trustees to plug the skills gaps they had identified in a recent skills audit.
Society was tasked with finding a Chair with robust knowledge of charity governance, ideally existing Chair experience (failing that, substantial charity Trustee experience and a clear ability and capacity to take the step up to chair in stride), a background running partnerships or collaborations (ideally with large corporates across different sectors) and, of course, a keen interest in and knowledge of the environmental space, specifically key opportunities and challenges.
In terms of the Trustee position, the Board were open to first-time Trustees and were keen to see applications from individuals under 40 to increase the age diversity of the cohort. More specifically, individuals who met one or more of the four skill areas identified in a recent skills audit – charitable fundraising, ESG/CSG experience, urban greening, and engaging with underrepresented communities. Charitable finance was also identified as a beneficial skill area.
After an extensive recruitment process, Richard Lackmann was appointed as the new Chair. Richard has more than 30 years of experience in financial and general management leadership. He has worked as a COO, CFO and Director/ Trustee in number of organisations in the UK, USA and Africa. Richard is the Chair of the campaigning organisation 38 Degrees. Previously he served on FARM Africa and Doteveryone boards as their Treasurer.
When asked for comment, Richard shared;
“As a candidate, I enjoyed working with Alyce Brogan and Society. I felt informed about the process and what Hubbub wanted from their new Chair. Everything was communicated clearly and there were no surprises. Just what you want when applying for a board role.”
Hubbub also appointed three new Trustees – Sam McCarthy (Head of Sustainability at Nando’s UK & IRE) Jack Taylor (Head of Development & Engagement at Pursuing Independent Paths), and Louisa Ziane (Co-Founder and COO at Toast Brewing).
We wish Richard, Sam, Jack, and Louisa all the very best in their new roles!
